After precepting student midwives from many different educational pathways, we recognized a gap between classroom education and clinical readiness. DFW Community Birth School was created to bridge that gap through relationship based education, hands on learning, and mentorship inside a working birth center.
Learn from midwives who are actively caring for families, not just teaching from a textbook. Classes are taught within a working birth center where students learn alongside experienced Licensed Midwives and guest instructors who bring real-world clinical experience into every lesson.

Jennifer Crawford, LM, CPM “Jenn”
Jennifer Crawford is a Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife with more than 20 years of experience in maternal child health. Before becoming a midwife, she worked in lactation, patient advocacy, clinical education, doula care, and experiences in maternal child health that continue to shape her approach to teaching.
As the founder of DFW Community Birth School and co-owner of DFW Community Birth & Wellness, Jennifer is passionate about preparing the next generation of community midwives through evidence informed education, hands on skills training, and clinical mentorship. After precepting students from multiple educational pathways, she created a Midwifery Training Program to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real world practice.

One of the most unique aspects of DFW Community Birth School is our partnership with the Community Midwifery Access Program at DFW Community Birth & Wellness.
This innovative program helps make midwifery care more accessible to families who may not otherwise be able to afford out of hospital birth while providing students with meaningful, supervised clinical learning opportunities.
Rather than observing from the sidelines, students actively participate in prenatal visits, childbirth education, labor support, postpartum care, newborn care, community outreach, and health education as their skills and experience grow.
By learning within a community focused practice, students gain far more than clinical skills, they develop a deeper understanding of service, advocacy, continuity of care, and the impact community midwives have on improving maternal health.
At DFW Community Birth School, your education doesn't just prepare you to become a midwife, it helps expand access to compassionate, relationship centered care for families across North Texas.

A Comprehensive Midwifery Education Built for Real-World Practice
Our curriculum is designed to prepare you for every stage of community midwifery. By developing a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, normal pregnancy, communication, professionalism, ethics, cultural humility, and the history and philosophy of community midwifery.Prenatal Care
You will learn how to provide comprehensive prenatal care including assessments, nutrition, laboratory interpretation, fetal growth and well being, common prenatal complications, and individualized care planning.Labor, Birth & Newborn Care
